Wes Lunt finally speaks to the media after a team rule didnt allow it during freshman year

It was weird when sophomore quarterback Wes Lunt was announced for the media on Wednesday afternoon.

When the 6'4 cannon-armed kid walked in, it got even weirder since we haven't been able to talk to him since high school due to Mike Gundy's rule saying that no first-year players can speak to us.

But when the microphones went on, Lunt was cool, calm, and collected, just like he was his first time in Boone Pickens Stadium last fall.

There was a year's worth of questions built up for him, and they were all fired off one after another. Lunt talked about his new offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich, his relationship with his old OC Todd Monken, his freshman season, and his relationship with fellow quarterbacks Clint Chelf and J.W. Walsh.

So here it is, the moment you've all been waiting for. Wes Lunt has finally spoken.

It must be nice to finally get to talk to the media?

Oh, it is. I'm sure you guys are happy too. It's been so long since I've done it, but yeah.

I mean, we wanted to talk to you last year but we couldn't.

I was definitely aware of it. I understand Coach Gundy's policy just because I was so overwhelmed with everything else. I don't know how I would've dealt with you guys on top of it all.

How tough was it to lose Coach Monken as your offensive coordinator? A guy you had a really good relationship with, and he just leaves after your first year and a new guy comes in.

It was definitely tough just because I had built a relationship with him, but that's college football. Everyone wants to be a head coach, that's kind of the gig. I understand it completely, and good for coach Monken.

What are your first impressions of Coach Yurcich, your new offensive coordinator?

He's definitely different. Both know the game equally and they teach them a different way, so it just makes you a better quarterback to learn in different ways.

Take me through your first season. What your thoughts were through everything, the rollercoaster season you had. Take us through all of that, what was it like for you?

A rollercoaster is the best way to describe it. There were so many emotions and physical things that I went through, and I think I grew from it as a person, as a quarterback, and as a teammate supporting Clint and J.W. when they were in there. It was a good experience and I don't have any regrets about it.

What's one thing that you learned through it all that made you better?

I'd say learning with adversity. Going through it all, it's definitely tough because I had never been through it in high school. Everything went my way. It's nice to go through it.

How important was that win over TCU for you? Coming back from the injury and everything, it must've been big.

It was very important. It was my first game getting back and we were playing a really good defense. To just get back into things and get that win at home, it boosted my confidence a lot.

Whenever that initial announcement came down this time last year that you were going to be the starter, what was your thought process?

I was pretty shocked. I didn't know what to expect just because it was my first time ever being a collegiate starter, obviously. But Clint and J.W. really helped me through it all.

And your first time running out on the field?

That was awesome. I came to see the Bedlam (2011) game, and it was just like that. It was amazing.
