The Oklahoma State Cowboys are no stranger to the talent rich hallways of DeSoto High School.

Before his days in the orange and black, Tatum Bell was a highly recruited standout for the Eagles. More recently, the Cowboys signed Chris Lacy in 2014 and then running back La’Darren Brown and defensive back A.J. Green in the 2016 class.

In the 2017 class, another DeSoto playmaker - four-star wide receiver Laviska Shenault - has caught the attention of the Cowboys’ coaching staff.

Saturday, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound receiver plans to be in attendance for the Cowboys’ spring game with DeSoto teammate Samuel Hunter. Shenault has already visited Stillwater and was impressed by the facilities, the atmosphere, and the coaches. On his return visit, he has a few things he will watch close.

“The coaching, what the team is doing, and stuff like that,” Shenault said.

Cornerbacks coach Tim Duffie is leading the Cowboys recruiting efforts for Shenault, and he has delivered a strong and simple message.

“He’s excited about me and ready for me to come down there,” Shenault said.

Shenault does not have any other visit plans scheduled, and he is not quite ready to narrow his list.

“I’m close, but not yet,” Shenault said.

As a junior in 2015, Shenault was DeSoto’s leading receiver with 494 yards and 3 touchdowns on 28 receptions. He earned first team all-district honors for his efforts.
