Pokes in on La Marque DB

Although the Cowboys are still pretty young in the defensive secondary, you can never have enough depth and competition at all positions when playing in a BCS conference. La Marque, Texas safety prospect James Thomas would certainly provide exemplary depth as a freshman and would likely compete for early playing time no matter where he chooses to go to school.
"Everything is cool," said Thomas when asked how his recruiting is going. "Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Kansas State, and Missouri (are recruiting me the hardest). I'd say Oklahoma State and Arkansas are pretty much the same as are the other two. It's like they paired up."

With that in mind, has Thomas settled on a list of favorites yet?
"Not at the moment, I'm still debating on where I'm going to take my visits. Wherever I take my visits will basically be my top five or six," he said.
Despite not having anything set in stone, Thomas mentioned that he may try and take his first official visit in about two weeks.
"I'm thinking about going to Kansas State on November 11 to see them play Texas. I don't really have anything else planned for the moment. I'm really just focusing on a state championship ring right now," he said.
Being recruited to Stillwater by Cowboys' assistant Head Coach Joe DeForest, Thomas established that he is going to wait a bit before making a decision.
"(Coach DeForest) is a real cool guy. I like him a lot. I'd say probably (I'll decide) when I get done taking all my visits," he said.
Does he know what he will be looking for when he does take those official visits?
"Well, my academics are probably going to have to be one of my major things because they will have to have the course that I'm interested in. Team chemistry is going to be a real big part of it too because I don't want to go to a team where they don't get along," he said.
Lastly, Thomas commented on how he and his La Marque Cougars are performing about two-thirds of the way through the season.
"We're doing great, we are 7-1. We lost to Pearland, we're 4-0 in district though. We've got one more game in district this weekend against the Dickinson Gators and then we've got a bye week," he said.
