Heralded as one of the more intriguing two-way players on the west coast, Crespi (CA) High School product Vaimoe Sekona had accrued an impressive list of scholarship offers throughout the previous eight months.
As he currently enjoys a strong senior season (hudl), the 6-foot-4, 290-pounder decided yesterday that he had heard enough from Oklahoma State offensive line coach Bob Connelly to warrant him making a decision to commit to the Cowboy program.
"He's been recruiting me for a while now," said Sekona. "They offered me like two months ago so it started kind of building a little before then."
"We would always stay in contact a lot and he's told me a lot of great things about the school. He told me about its past and the facts speak for themselves and it's a winning program."
While playing both offensive guard and defensive tackle in high school, Sekona has accepted the Cowboy offer as an offensive lineman becoming the fifth such prospect in the Cowboys' current class.
"[Offensive guard] is where coach said he really likes me at," said the three-star talent. "He says he likes my film there and he says I play really physical."
Having understandably never been to Stillwater, Sekona will take his official visit to OSU the weekend of November 14-16 although he admitted that the fact he has not been there had little impact on his decision.
"I've seen many pictures of their new facilities and everything and they look really nice. I've been talking to the coaches and they send me things in the mail. I've looked into the school and also their past and the winning program and the things that they put out - the numbers - it looks all seeming to a good program," he said.
With a number of offers to choose from Sekona established that tradition and offensive style are what led him to ultimately commit to the Cowboy program sight unseen.
"My other top two schools were Texas Tech and Oregon State and it was hard to pick between those three but like I said Oklahoma State has the background behind it to prove the numbers and their winning program and that has a lot to do with it. Also their offense fits my type of offense, you know, balanced and running the ball and the power game and I feel like I could show off well."
With his visit coming up in just a few weeks, Sekona lastly touched on if there is anything specific he hopes to accomplish while in town that weekend.
"Just to kind of validate everything [I've seen] on the internet but I want to come up and meet every coach in person and talk to them and other than that I'm pretty solid on it," he said.
Sekona is the 15th commitment towards Oklahoma State's 2015 recruiting class.
