Cowboys and the draft

With the NFL season finally over, the offseason is in full swing.

NFL teams are busy getting ready for the NFL Draft and free agency. The Oklahoma State Cowboys have a handful draft prospects. With the NFL Combine a few weeks out, here is an update on what people are saying about the former Pokes, according to walterfootball.com.

Name, position ranking, round projection

Vincent Taylor, No. 11 DT, 3-5 "Taylor is a sleeper prospect who could end up being a nice value pick in the mid-rounds of the 2017 NFL Draft. He has disruptive speed at the point of attack with the strength to fight off blockers. Taylor played well as a junior and decided to skip his senior year. In 2016, Taylor had 51 tackles with 13 for a loss, seven sacks, two forced fumbles and one pass broken up."

Blake Jarwin, No. 14 TE, 4-6 "On the year, Jarwin recorded 19 receptions for 309 yards and two touchdowns. He had a good week at the East-West Shrine where he blocked well and showed some receiving skills. Jarwin is a sleeper who could be a nice mid-round value."

Barry J. Sanders, No. 31 RB, FA 2/3/17: Sanders totaled 28 carries for 93 yards and two touchdowns on the year. He had some good moments on kick returns, averaging 24 yards per return.

Ashton Lampkin, Victor Salako and Jordan Sterns were not listed in the prospect rankings on the site. But Sterns did impress at the Senior Bowl, according to walterfootball.com. "Oklahoma State safety Jordan Sterns has been solid all week, and he had an excellent play to fly across the field and limit a reverse to a moderate gain in what looked like it could have been a huge play if Sterns didn't fly over to make the tackle. Sterns is an intelligent player with upside."

NFL Draft analyst Jeff Risdon on Sterns: "I like his game, he has some strong tape. Inconsistent but his good is quite good."

The NFL Combine is a few weeks out, so we will see which Cowboys get the invite. Chris Carson was invited, according to a tweet by former RB coach Marcus Arroyo.

NBA Evaluations and projections for the 2017 NBA Draft are in its infancy. NBA.com came out with its Top 30, with Jawun Evans coming in at No. 25. "He should not be overlooked in a class with many other point guards rated higher and should not be lost in Oklahoma State's bad start to conference play. Evans has the speed to compensate for any size concerns, handles the ball well, and would be coming out with two years of experience at a major program against tough competition. Teams could see a backup point guard of the future available late in the first round."
