Cowboys look to bounce back after loss
The Oklahoma State Cowboys were riding high going into the Old Spice Classic, a 21-point win over Memphis providing an extra boost, but OSU returned from the sunshine state with a cold splash of reality.
The No. 9 Cowboys (7-1) lost in its grudge match with Memphis, 73-68. Marcus Smart was on fire in the matchup in Gallagher-Iba Arena but struggled from the field the second time around.
Smart, who suffered from symptoms related to a stomach virus, scored 12 points on four of 13 shooting. He and the whole team took the game as a wake-up call.
"There is no surprises," Smart said. "We have to expect everybody's best game because that is what we are going to get."
Following the loss to Memphis, forward Kamari Murphy was candid in his postgame interview about the team not playing to its potential. He noted several factors, including off the court distractions, that contributed to the letdown.
"It was pretty obvious we were out of sync," Murphy said. "We wasn't on track like we normally are."
OSU hosts the South Carolina Gamecocks (2-2) as a part of the Big12/SEC challenge. USC is led by freshman Sindarius Thornwell, who averages 13 points a game. Despite the unimpressive record, OSU head coach Travis Ford believes...
