Know the Foe South Carolina
The Cowboys return to Gallagher-Iba Arena Friday night looking to bounce back from their 1st loss of the season when they take on the South Carolina Gamecocks. Friday's matchup is part of the Inaugural Big XII/SEC Challenge. In previous years the Big XII was part of the Big 12/PAC-10 Harwood series, but the contract was not renewed after it expired in 2010. The SEC was part of the SEC-Big East Challenge, but also did not renew their contract in 2012, mainly due to the realignment of the Big East conference. Currently the Big XII leads the SEC 4-2 in the 10 game series. A Cowboy win would guarantee that the Big XII will tie at the least in the series. While conference bragging rights are always great, the focus for the Cowboys is to win it for themselves to get the team back on track after falling to Memphis in the Old Spice Classic final.

Kacinas' rebounding average is the 5th best in the SEC, only trailing 4th by 0.3 rebounds per game. In their previous game the Cowboys struggle to contain the Memphis frontcourt allowing 14 offensive rebounds led by Memphis big man Shaq Goodwin. Goodwin led the Tigers in scoring and rebounds against the Cowboys. Kacinas' presence on the boards and his high percentage shooting could bring similar problems to the Cowboys that Goodwin brought this past Sunday. The Cowboys must contain Kacinas if they want to win the battle on the boards.
