Season of change
If there is one way to sum up Oklahoma State's spring football session - which will be more than half the way to being over following this afternoon's workout - it's that it's all about change.
It starts with the coaching staff.
While the changes there were well-documented, they occurred over a fairly long period of time and perhaps don't seem as big as they are. The Cowboys are breaking in new coordinators on both sides of the ball, and have three new position coaches this spring. Offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich is new to the program, while Glenn Spencer is fully responsible for the defense after serving as a co-coordinator under Bill Young.
Jason Ray joined the offensive staff, while Joe Bob Clements and Tim Duffie are new on the defensive side. Ray and Duffie didn't step directly into the roles of their predecessors, which makes for more change for the Cowboys this spring.
In fact, the only position groups that are being coached by the same individual this spring as last fall are running backs (Jemal Singleton and linebackers (Spencer). OSU's outside receivers sort of have the same coach, as Kasey Dunn and Ray are handling all of the receivers jointly. Last season Dunn coached the outside receivers and current Houston offensive coordinator Doug Meacham handled the inside receivers.
The change theme extends to personnel, as several Cowboys are trying out new positions this spring - particularly on defense.
