Ive never been much of a hunter but I am interested in learning. Do very many of you hunt coyotes?

Been with my brother twice. He loves it. Hunts in competitions a lot and wins frequently. He says it's the most exciting thing you can ever do. sometimes you won't see one until its right up on you and it's running at full speed. He told me one time he shot one running at full speed so close it died right at his feet.

The only two times I've been it was way more open and long range.

The most memorable thing for me was the sound of the coyote call. Dying rabbit sounds more like some kind of demon possessed evil than anything of this earth. Creepy. And man it gets old

I usually carry both a turkey and a coyote/predator call when I'm bowhunting for deer. Especially early season. I can tell you that a coyote is pretty darn hard to draw back on without being spotted. I've shot a few with a bow but had many others in bow range and didn't get a shot off because they winded me/my path or caught my movement. Sharp!
Other than that, I shoot maybe two a year off my back porch crossing one of my fields- we're usually talking long range (for me!) of 300-400 yds.

Thanks guys. I would be interested in learning if anyone here decides to go this year.

The best time to go is when there is snow on the ground, and cold for some reason.

We used to do it with greyhounds a lot of fun.

No offense to Thor above but coyote hunters with dogs are scum around these parts. Many of them (obviously not all) are low life's who respect nobody's personal property, posted signs, etc. and openly talk about how they blindly shoot rifles into draws, weedbeds, etc. in order to flush out yotes. They release their dogs into fencelines with "green" weaning calves grazing against a hotwire nearby, many times sending the cattle through the fence. We have their radio frequency programmed into our radio's and do not miss an opportunity to turn their asses in or run them off.

As far as the reala coyote hunting that is done with a call, camo and rifle, that is for another post.

Was that at the lease down by Mt View?

One was on the lease, the other was in a pasture about a 2 miles from there. I know most of the neighboring ranchers and they like dead coyotes.
