Wes Lunt announces his transfer from Oklahoma State
Oklahoma State's fan base was slightly shocked by news out of Stillwater today.
The Cowboy football team announced that quarterback Wes Lunt will transfer from the program this summer, and his destination was announced.
Lunt was announced as the starter as a true freshman, and completed all 11 passes he attempted in the season opener against Savannah State before throwing for a Big 12 freshman record 436 yards and 4 touchdowns at Arizona.
"This was not a decision I took lightly, but it is a decision that I felt was right for me," Lunt said. "I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to the entire Oklahoma State University community."
The sophomore went through multiple injuries after the two performances, and position-mates J.W. Walsh and Clint Chelf performed well enough to keep Lunt off the field for the remainder of the year as he recovered.
He was thought of as the future of the program over the last year and a half due to his incredibly strong arm and tall stature, and showed glimpses of those characteristics multiple times throughout his freshman campaign.
"Specifically, I would like to thank the coaches, players, and the whole OSU football family. I wish the Cowboys the best of luck in the future."
The departure of offensive coordinator Todd Monken this past season started rumors about Lunt's possible unhappiness, but the quarterback was quoted saying that he was happy at Oklahoma State multiple times.
Lunt will have to sit out of the 2013 season if he transfers to another Division-1 program, as he likely will, and Oklahoma State will head into the fall with Chelf and Walsh as their only returning quarterbacks.
