2007 Men's Hoop Practice Report #6

After impressing a larger-than-expected Bohler Gym audience this past weekend at its annual intrasquad scrimmage, the Wazzu men's basketball team took to the practice court for a full week of practice in preparation for their exhibition game against Lewis-Clark State on Sunday.

On Tuesday, the team went through three different full-speed scrimmages.

The first scrimmage was all about the defense. At one stretch in the scrimmage, only one basket, a Nikola Koprivica drive along the baseline, was scored in 10 possessions.

On one possession, the defense forced center Aron Baynes to shoot a three as the buzzer went off. The shot was off the mark, and on the other end, Kyle Weaver stuffed a Derrick Low three-point attempt.

The next scrimmage after a short break would prove to be a complete 180.

Baynes led the way right off the bat. The big man from Cairns, Australia tipped in a missed Weaver three-pointer for an easy two. His next defensive possession led to tough rebound. After pulling in the rebound, he posted up on the other end of the court and was fed the ball. Baynes was patient and dished the ball to Taylor Rochestie for a wide-open three-pointer.
